Are Expensive Darts Better?
It's easy to assume that a £150 or £200 set of darts must perform better than a £40 or £60 set. But expensive darts don't automatically make you a better darts player.
A dart doesn't become more accurate simply because it costs more.
What Are You Paying for With Expensive Darts?
When comparing two sets, look beyond the price.
If both are made from high-percentage tungsten and have similar dimensions, barrel shapes and grip profiles, it's worth asking what actually accounts for the difference in cost.
Depending on the darts, you may be paying for factors such as the design, manufacturing complexity, finish or branding.
None of those automatically mean the dart is better suited to your throw.
Does Tungsten Percentage Matter?
Tungsten percentage is one characteristic worth considering when comparing darts because it can influence how manufacturers achieve particular barrel dimensions.
But seeing “90% tungsten” on the packaging doesn't tell you whether the dart suits you.
Two 90% tungsten darts can have completely different shapes, grip profiles and dimensions.
Will Buying Better Darts Improve My Game?
Changing equipment can help when your current equipment doesn't complement your throw.
But price itself isn't the reason.
Your grip, throw, practice, consistency and the time you put into improving remain considerably more important than simply buying increasingly expensive equipment.
A £60 dart that fits your natural grip and release can be a much more sensible choice than a £200 dart that doesn't.
Buy Darts for Your Throw, Not Their Price
Before buying your next set, ask:
- Where do I naturally grip the dart?
- What barrel shape suits that position?
- How much grip do I actually need?
- What weight complements my throwing action?
- What am I gaining by spending more?
The aim should be to find equipment that works with you.
That's why DartsDNA focuses on matching darts to characteristics of your natural throw rather than assuming the most expensive option is automatically the best.
